The Afreximbank Internship Program 2026ย is offered by the African Export-Import Bank for young Africans, students of African descent, and other eligible applicants interested in trade, finance, and development. The program provides hands-on professional experience within one of Africaโ€™s leading financial institutions, focused on promoting and financing intra-African and global trade.

About the Afreximbank Internship Program

The internship is designed to deepen participantsโ€™ understanding of African trade, trade finance, and structured finance operations. Interns gain exposure to Afreximbankโ€™s mandate and business model while contributing fresh perspectives to its operations. The program also supports capacity building by training future professionals in trade finance and economic development.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program
  • Be studying economics, finance, accounting, business, law, engineering, social sciences, statistics, or related fields
  • Be nationals of Afreximbank member states, students of African descent in the diaspora, or other applicants aligned with Africaโ€™s development vision
  • Be aged 20โ€“32 at the time of application
  • Be fluent in English or French (knowledge of both or additional languages is an advantage)
  • Not be children of Afreximbank staff

Internship Structure

  • Duration: Up to 6 months
  • Frequency: Twice yearly cohorts (January and June intake)
  • Location: Primarily Afreximbank Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt
  • Mode: Fully in-person
  • Rotation: Interns may rotate across departments during the program

Benefits

Selected interns may receive:

  • Monthly stipend of USD 1,000
  • Housing allowance of USD 500 (for relocating interns)
  • Return travel support (most economical route)
  • One-week hotel accommodation during induction
  • Visa and relocation support where applicable

Interns are responsible for personal living expenses such as meals, transport, and insurance.
