The I&M Foundation is the philanthropic arm of I&M Group PLC. It was registered in Kenya in 2020 as a company limited by guarantee, and it is mandated to work within Kenya. I&M Bank Kenya contributes 2% of its profit before tax to it, and a Board of Directors makes its legal and fiduciary decisions.

Its work spans education and skills development, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment. It targets underserved communities in Kenya and works through implementing partners rather than running programs itself. A typical project starts with a concept note and often a pilot, then moves to a site visit, approval by the Directors, a signed agreement, and monitoring and evaluation.

Its best-known project is Imarisha Ngong Forest, a multi-year partnership with the Kenya Forest Service to restore and develop the urban forest. One source puts the Foundation’s commitment at over KES 160 million. On the youth side, it has funded higher-education scholarships, including at Strathmore University, and entrepreneurial skills training. Its partners include The King’s Trust International and Asante Africa Foundation. It also works with the Palmhouse Foundation.

Eric Kimani is the Chairman. A recent report says I&M Group has appointed Dorine Nalo to head the Foundation, replacing James Gatere, who was named as Head in the 2025 anniversary coverage.
