In a groundbreaking move, Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia has introduced a special clause to players’ contracts starting this month that mandates their participation in charitable initiatives. Dubbed the ‘CSKA Foundation’ clause, players have 30 days to choose a charity to work with.Â
The club created the CSKA Foundation last year, and this foundation supports several initiatives, from socially responsible projects to charitable causes. Players will pick from the list of CSKA Foundation causes.
A legacy beyond football
“Charity is included as a mandatory requirement in the contracts of CSKA players,” said a club statement.
Realizing CSKA’s responsibility to society, the club believes that every football player must adhere to the understandings and virtues that have become its philosophy, regardless of where they come from.CSKA emphasized that charity, empathy, and the desire to help and make someone happy have long been its mission, it has repeatedly proven that it is more than a team.
“Now, through the CSKA Foundation clause, each of our players will be involved in a cause of their choice, for which they will commit to be an ambassador and take care. We are sure that for each of these boys, there is an initiative that they accept and would gladly support.”
According to CSKA, the players have realized that they must be role models for all those children, fans, and bystanders who follow their development far from only on the pitch. Within a 30-day timeline, the players must choose their cause and begin activities with it.
The club said their players “took the idea to heart,” with every player signing up for the foundation. It’s high time they moved to the next level and set an example for everyone else because goodness is contagious, the club said.
On the other hand, Dave Heller, owner of the Kansas-based baseball team Quad Cities River Bandits, demonstrated extraordinary community generosity by donating $50,000 to three critical children’s charities in Davenport, Iowa. Heller says the strength of their outstanding community is measured in many ways by the health of its wonderful people, stating and appreciating the people’s contribution to River Bandits’ success.Â
As a result, they give back generously to the people.

CSKA Sofia: A prototype for other clubs
Beyond Bulgaria’s borders, CSKA Sofia sets a new precedent for football clubs worldwide by incorporating charity work into the players’ contracts and giving them a 30-day timeline for actualization. This integration positions players as not just athletes but leaders whose qualities inspire their fans and benefit society.
The CSKA Foundation clause points out that football is not just a game but can also be a platform for spreading kindness to everyone, particularly people in need.
