St. Jude Community Homes is a 39-year nonprofit organization based in downtown east Toronto that provides supportive housing and mental health services for people living with chronic mental illness. The organization operates as both a housing provider and a health service provider, supporting residents through stable, self-contained housing and person-centered services that promote dignity, recovery, and community connection.

The Role

St. Jude Community Homes is seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic leadership, organizational direction, and operational oversight across its supportive housing portfolio. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role is responsible for guiding the organization’s vision, ensuring strong service delivery, and maintaining financial and operational sustainability.

The Executive Director will lead staff across multiple sites, strengthen external partnerships, and support a resident-centered culture grounded in recovery, dignity, and inclusion. This role also involves close collaboration with a volunteer Board of Directors and external funders to ensure strong governance and long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Strategy and Leadership

  • Provide overall strategic leadership and direction for the organization
  • Oversee operational management across multiple housing and service sites
  • Ensure services support recovery-oriented, resident-centered care
  • Lead organizational planning and long-term service development
  • Strengthen programs that support housing stability, mental health, and community integration

Donor Engagement and Major Gifts

  • Develop and manage organizational budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation
  • Ensure effective use of funding from government and public sector partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with key funders and stakeholders, including Ministry and municipal partners
  • Support financial sustainability through strategic oversight and reporting

Campaign Culture and Ecosystem Building

  • Lead and support staff across multiple residential and support service teams
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, inclusion, and collaboration
  • Engage directly with residents in a respectful and person-centered manner
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to support governance and organizational strategy
  • Strengthen partnerships with community organizations and service providers

Requirements

  • Significant leadership experience in supportive housing, mental health, or a related human services sector
  • Proven experience in organizational leadership and team management
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budget development and oversight
  • Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to lead multi-site operations (asset)
  • Understanding of government-funded service environments (asset)
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Coaching-oriented leadership style with strong interpersonal skills
