About Maternal Health Equity Collaborative

Maternal Health Equity Collaborative (MHEC) is a collective of five birth and parenting organizations working to improve perinatal health outcomes for Black and Brown families across Central Texas. Its member organizations include Black Mamas ATX, Mama Sana Vibrant Woman, Healing Hands Community Birthing Project, Giving Austin Labor Support, and Partners in Parenting.

The Role

The Development Manager will lead fundraising, grant writing, partnership development, and resource mobilization efforts for the Maternal Health Equity Collaborative. Working closely with the Steering Committee, Board, Operations Manager, Community Engagement Manager, and volunteer-led Circles, this role will help secure and grow the resources needed to sustain and expand MHEC’s collective impact.

The position is ideal for a collaborative fundraising professional who is passionate about racial equity, maternal health, and community-centered leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy and Resource Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with MHEC’s goals
  • Identify, write, and manage grant opportunities for MHEC and member organizations
  • Lead collective grant development efforts and coordinate proposal submissions
  • Facilitate grant writing circle meetings and support proposal development processes
  • Establish and strengthen systems that support fundraising and resource development activities

Donor Engagement and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, sponsors, and funding partners
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities that support MHEC programs and initiatives
  • Ensure funders receive timely reports, updates, and recognition
  • Maintain accurate donor records and fundraising databases
  • Cultivate long-term partnerships that strengthen organizational sustainability

Communications and Organizational Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Manager and Operations Manager to align fundraising communications with organizational priorities
  • Contribute to newsletters, social media content, and development-related promotional materials
  • Provide regular fundraising updates and progress reports to the Steering Committee, Board, and Circles
  • Track fundraising goals and monitor financial development performance
  • Support the creation of fundraising events and integrate fundraising components into existing programs and community events

Requirements

  • Certification, credentials, or equivalent experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant management, communications, public health, or a related field
  • Three to five years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising and grant management
  • Strong grant writing, project management, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and community partners
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to maternal health equity, racial justice, and community-led solutions
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, shared leadership environment
