The Nature and Biodiversity Community Grant Scheme puts local money behind local hands in Herefordshire, funding community-led projects that restore habitats, welcome wildlife back, and deepen residents’ connection with the natural environment on their doorstep. About the Nature and Biodiversity Community Grant Scheme
Administered by FCC Environment on behalf of Herefordshire Council, the scheme is funded through the Landfill Communities Fund and targets projects that deliver measurable environmental gains in line with Herefordshire’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Priority is given to work that benefits high-value habitats including wetlands, traditional orchards, woodland, and open meadows, and that supports protected species including hedgehogs, swifts, owls, bats, newts, butterflies, and otters.
Funding Size
- Standard grants: £500 to £10,000
- Larger awards: up to £35,000 for projects delivering significant environmental and community benefits
- All projects must be completed and final reports submitted within the agreed project period
Who Can Apply
- Registered charities and community interest companies based in Herefordshire
- Parish councils and relevant local government bodies
- Formally constituted non-profit businesses and organizations based in Herefordshire
- Community groups without legal status may apply through an eligible partner organization
- Businesses may apply where the project delivers clear public environmental benefit

Application Process
Applications are submitted online through the FCC Environment grant portal. Once received, FCC Environment acknowledges receipt and applications are assessed by an independent panel against eligibility criteria, environmental impact, and value for money. The panel may request further information before reaching a decision. All grant offers are subject to funding availability.
