The Role
Dogs Trust is seeking an experienced Legacy Officer to join its team in London. This role plays a crucial part in protecting and maximising the value of gifts left to the charity in supporters’ wills, ensuring every legacy has the greatest possible impact on the lives of dogs and their owners. Working within a hybrid environment, the successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of estates while maintaining high standards of professionalism and sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities
Legacy Administration
Manage a caseload of pecuniary, specific, life interest, and residuary legacies.
Ensure the charity receives its full entitlement from estates.
Identify opportunities to maximise the value of gifts where appropriate.
Stakeholder Management
Liaise with executors, solicitors, and other external parties.
Handle sensitive conversations professionally and efficiently.
Respond to enquiries from legal professionals and members of the public.
Estate and Tax Review
Review estate accounts to ensure correct administration.
Assess the allocation of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Inheritance Tax (IHT).
Escalate complex matters to senior legal colleagues when necessary.
Record Keeping and Reporting
Maintain accurate records using the First Class 4 database.
Support reporting requirements and case monitoring.
Ensure all correspondence and documentation are managed effectively.
About You
Proven experience in legacy administration.
Strong knowledge of wills, probate, tax, and trust law.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
A Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration is desirable.
