The American Legion Post 159 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, has confirmed a record-breaking year after disbursing over $67,000 in support of community causes and assistance programs. This feat shows their financial strength and commitment to serving both veterans and the wider local community.

According to a statement by the American Legion, the $67,000 donation over the course of the year is their highest ever. The funds were directed to several community beneficiaries, including schools, nonprofits, and local service groups.
Officials explained that this fund is a significant increase compared with previous years, when annual contributions were lower. They attributed the growth to fundraising activities combined with strong community participation and volunteer involvement.
“For years, Ohio American Legion Post 159 has made significant financial donations to other orgs & entities within its community, including more than $100,000 from 2022-2024. But 2025 was different. In fact, it was record-breaking $67,000+ given out,” said The American Legion.
Much of the funding was generated through ongoing post operations and locally organised events that provided a steady revenue stream. By prioritising senior citizens and local communities, this shows they are one of the top charities helping veterans globally.
The American Legion notes that support was spread across dozens of organizations and not concentrated in a single area. This method ensured that funds reached education programs, food support initiatives, and civic projects.
“We’ve been doing it for quite a few years, starting out small, and each year we’re able to build it up. Probably the last three years, we’ve been up around $40,000, $45,000. But this is the largest we’ve been able to accomplish,” said Post 159 Commander, Larry Barnes.
Post representatives said decisions on disbursement were made based on local needs and long-standing relationships with community partners. They added that maintaining fairness and transparency guided the allocation process.
