The Carroll County Foundation has announced the awarding of grants totalling $105,500 to bolster local food security, education, and community heritage initiatives. The funding will see a range of organizations receive critical support, from combating hunger to preserving local history and investing in future innovators.
Carroll County Foundation prioritizes food and local arts
In a report published by Your Ohio News, the foundation says it is a move to address food insecurity. The Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank received $6,000 to sustain the Carroll County Pop-Up Food Pantry.
The pantry operates on the first Wednesday of each month at the Church of Christ in Carrollton. It also distributes approximately 4,000 pounds of food to residents monthly.
The Foundation prioritized literacy and the arts, awarding $1,750 to the Minerva Public Library. The library will use the funds to establish a circulating collection of original framed artwork by local artists.
It further added that this will allow cardholders to borrow and enjoy pieces from the community for a limited period. Major grants of $20,000 each were approved for both the Carroll County Council on Aging and the Carroll County District Library.
Major Funding Boosts Senior Services and Historical Preservation
The Council on Aging will channel its funds toward the purchase and installation of new commercial kitchen appliances at the Friendship Center. The upgrade will support the center’s on-site dining program for seniors aged 60 and older.
Meanwhile, the Carroll County District Library will utilize its grant to advance Phase Two of its local newspaper digitization project. This phase focuses on digitizing historical issues of The Free Press Standard from 1946 to 1991.
“Once completed, the archives will be accessible online via the library’s website. It will also preserve decades of local history for public access,”It explains that.
Furthering its commitment to youth development, the Foundation provided $5,000 to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. These funds will create scholarships for low-income students residing in Carroll County to attend Camp Invention this summer at Minerva Elementary.
The STEM learning program targets students from kindergarten through sixth grade. This aims to inspire the next generation of innovators.
The Carroll County Foundation, an affiliate of the Stark Community Foundation, also encourages community members to contribute to its mission. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to Carroll County Foundation, P.O. Box 375, Carrollton, OH 44615.
In another development, Barnstable County has stepped in to rescue its stranded commercial fishing industry and restore vital emergency access routes. It has also approved $50,000 for emergency ice removal in harbours paralyzed by a severe deep freeze.
Meanwhile, for the past year, charities in Cornwall and Devon have received support from South West Water’s Neighborhood Fund. This funding is accompanied by a great deal of funding assistance offered by the organization for education, health, and environmental activities.
