A minister has appreciated the magnanimity of Channel Islands Lottery players, who have donated over £260,000 to disability charities in the last four years.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel confirmed that the lottery-funded grants, distributed to charities by the Jersey Community Foundation and the Association of Jersey Charities, supported a “diverse range of charities.”

Since the beginning of 2020, the Channel Islands Lottery has contributed a total of £262,507 to 11 projects.

Several charities benefiting from the funding include Healing Waves and Maison des Landes. In May last year, the JCF awarded Healing Waves £ 31,012.

The funding is being used to deliver life-changing ocean therapy for Islanders living with disabilities, long-term conditions, and mental health struggles. Additional support is also provided for their families, enabling them to participate in sea activities such as surfing and other water sports.

The Association of Jersey Charities Maison des Landes was awarded £30,000 in June 2023 and is using the grant to fund a community hub at its hotel. Other charities that have received funding from the Channel Islands Lottery since 2020 include Move & Groove, Les Amis, Jersey Cheshire Home, Jersey Employment Trust, Wetwheels Jersey, and Aspire Trust.

Government initiative applause

“These grants enable organizations like Healing Waves and Maison des Landes to continue their essential work, providing vital services, support and opportunities that significantly impact the lives of Islanders living with disabilities and their families ‘’emphasized   Deputy Morel.

Donating lottery proceeds to charitable causes is not only laudable but also noteworthy. This helps promote accessibility, independence, and the well-being of disabled people.

In the same vein, UK charitable organizations are positively impacting their communities. The Dorset Community Foundation distributed more than £275,000 to help families cope with the challenges of winter. These two causes transform lives and bring real change to the community.

As the Channel Islands Lottery continually fund these transformative causes, countless lives and families are positively transformed, thus paving way for an inclusive society.
