The CivicHive Civic Tech Fellowship empowers early‑stage civic innovators across West Africa. This will transform technology‑enabled ideas into community‑focused solutions. This programme supports innovators who promote civic participation and address social challenges.

About the CivicHive Civic Tech Fellowship

The CivicHive Civic Tech Fellowship identifies, nurtures, and supports the next generation of civic tech leaders addressing pressing social and governance issues. The fellowship welcomes ideas at any stage, from local initiatives to regional platforms.

Fellows receive support in technical development, product design and strategic planning. Participants join a regional network of civic tech innovators and gain mentorship from experienced leaders at the 2026 West Africa Civic Tech Conference. The programme helps fellows refine solutions, launch pilots, and strengthen organisational capacity.

Funding Size

  • Typical grant amount: NGN 150,000 monthly
  • Maximum award: NGN 3,000,000
  • Project duration supported: 20 weeks of intensive fellowship activities

The funding covers a monthly allowance that allows fellows to work full-time on their civic tech solutions. There is technical and legal assistance, as well as travel support, for fellows.

Who Can Apply for the CivicHive Civic Tech Fellowship

Eligible organisation types

  • Individual innovators developing civic tech solutions
  • Teams creating technology-enabled tools for social impact
  • Early-stage projects demonstrating civic engagement potential

Registration or legal documents

  • Proof of citizenship or residency in a West African country
  • Documentation that the solution has been piloted for one to three years
  • Project summary and plan aligned with the fellowship’s thematic focus

Project focus requirements

  • Solutions that strengthen civic space, accountability and service delivery
  • Ideas applying technology for social good, including governance, civic engagement  and education
  • Innovations showing clear sustainability and community benefits

Geographic eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens or residents of any West African country
  • Projects must benefit communities within the region

Sector or thematic focus

  • Responsible use of artificial intelligence for civic or social challenges
  • Low-cost climate resilience technology for communities
  • Technology solutions for social services such as health, education, and justice
  • Platforms strengthening advocacy, citizen engagement, and civic organising

Application Process

  • Review eligibility and ensure alignment with fellowship focus areas
  • Prepare a detailed project proposal with objectives, outcomes, and expected impact
  • Submit all application materials within the open window
  • Participate in follow-up discussions or clarifications with the selection committee
  • Await notification of selected fellows and onboarding instructions
