Ahead of his 32nd birthday in November 2024, Davido shared a heartfelt post on social media about his latest charitable plans. In it, he announced that he would be donating ₦300 million to orphanages and other anti-drug initiatives.
“Once again, for my birthday this year, we are donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction. This year is ₦300 million.
The announcement is regarded as one of those acts that reflects just the kind of person Davido is and how big his heart is. It also emphasizes Davido’s deep care for the next generation as he focuses on creating awareness of drug abuse while helping them attain a better future through his numerous orphanage initiatives.
Davido’s long history of giving
As stated earlier, generosity is not new to Davido as in 2021, he launched a social media fundraising event which was able to collect over ₦200 million. On top of this, he added ₦50 million to the money realized from his pocket and he ensured that the orphanages across Nigeria received the full amount of that money.
Furthermore, he improved this cause by creating a non-profit foundation in 2022 that is meant to assist vulnerable people across the nation, the Davido Adeleke Foundation (DAF). Through this foundation, over ₦200 million has been distributed to orphanages which have assisted almost 14,000 children in getting a better life.
Another distinguishing feature of Davido’s philanthropy is his involvement with his fans, rather than just making a generous donation and calling it a day, he promotes social media giveaways and creates campaigns to engage with his fans.
