Egypt charities to distribute 60 million Ramadan meals nationwide

The Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity is set to distribute nearly 60 million Ramadan meals across the country. The nationwide programme will activate 642 “Ahl El-Kheir” food distribution centres alongside more than 20 fixed and mobile restaurants and outlet.

Nationwide Ramadan meals to support vulnerable families

According to Arab News, Minister Morsy, in a statement said the initiative brings together 286 partners. This include the Ministry of Awqaf and a broad coalition of civil society organisations and charities.

The programme aims to deliver daily hot meals to the most vulnerable families throughout the fasting month. It also seeks to generate income opportunities for female breadwinners who will work in the participating kitchens.

“Volunteers across the country have begun packing food boxes to support families as the holy month approaches,” the statement reads.

Egypt extends humanitarian hand to Gaza

In a parallel humanitarian effort, Minister Morsy revealed that Egypt will dispatch one million meals to the Gaza Strip during Ramadan.

The transborder assistance forms part of the “Helal El-Kheir 2026” campaign launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent. The initiative reiterates Egypt’s enduring humanitarian commitment toward Palestinians, particularly during Ramadan.

A dedicated humanitarian kitchen in Sheikh Zuweid will prepare and distribute one million Iftar meals in Gaza. Organisers describe the effort as a practical expression of solidarity that highlights the deep ties between the Egyptian and Palestinian peoples.

The operation will also provide daily iftar meals for travellers passing through Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid. This extends support to wounded and ill Palestinians arriving for treatment or returning after recovery through the Rafah Crossing.

Egyptian Red Crescent teams remain active on the Egyptian side of the Rafah Crossing. It also assists injured Palestinians and patients by facilitating entry and exit procedures.

In 2025, Egypt unveiled a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza while ensuring that the Palestinians remain in the fatherland. This is however a plan that is found to be in direct opposition to Donald Trump, president of the United States controversial plan to depopulate the region.

Meanwhile, World Central Kitchen (WCK) has commenced the distribution of 100,000 food kits to families in Gaza. The food kits will provide 7 million meals for Gaza residents throughout Ramadan, complementing previous effort.
