Everyday bravery: nominations open for £2,000 award

Share

A family law firm in the UK is inviting nominations to honor everyday individuals who have shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity.

The Family Law Company is offering the winner a bespoke experience at the luxurious Bovey Castle. Valued at £2,000, the prize includes a two-night stay with dinner, bed, and breakfast, champagne upon arrival, a selected activity, and access to a golf buggy to explore the scenic estate.

“We’re not looking for superheroes,” explained Lucy Theobold, director of the company’s Cornwall office in Truro. “Bravery isn’t always loud or flashy. It can be found in the quiet moments of perseverance, in making tough decisions, or simply carrying on when life feels overwhelming. This is the kind of courage we want to celebrate.”

The company is encouraging people to think about friends, family, or neighbors who have demonstrated courage in their everyday lives. Whether it’s someone who faced a personal challenge head-on, acted selflessly in a critical moment, or stood up for what’s right, the goal is to honor those who embody resilience and bravery.

Recognizing courage

This initiative echoes other efforts aimed at celebrating acts of bravery, such as the Royal Humane Society’s long-standing tradition of awarding medals and certificates for extraordinary heroism. Founded 250 years ago, the society initially focused on promoting the rescue of drowning victims but has since expanded to recognize acts of life-saving courage in any circumstance.

Every year, the society receives close to 1,000 nominations highlighting inspiring examples of bravery by civilians and police officers. The stories range from individuals who rescued others in car crashes or house fires to those who stepped into dangerous situations, such as terrorist attacks, to save lives.

These efforts not only honor acts of selflessness but also allow the public to reflect on the challenges faced by those who step forward in moments of crisis. Whether it’s jumping into harm’s way or providing quiet strength during adversity, recognizing these stories inspires others to act courageously when it matters most.

How to Nominate

Nominations for The Family Law Company’s award are open until January 31, 2025. To put forward someone you believe deserves this recognition, visit www.thefamilylawco.co.uk/bravery-nominations.

This award serves as a reminder that courage is not defined by capes or superpowers but by the quiet determination to make a difference in someone else’s life.
