Fake RNLI charity collector sparks warning in Guisborough

Share

The residents in Guisborough, the North Eastern England, have been advised to be on high alert following reports of a fraudulent charity collector impersonating a fundraiser for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

The report says that the individual is fully dressed in RNLI-branded clothing, and was seen going door-to-door requesting donations on behalf of the organization.

RNLI confirms fundraising fraud

The RNLI Redcar team has publicly declared that they never collect donations through door-to-door campaigns.

“The RNLI does NOT raise funds in this way. The collector is bogus,” they emphasized, in a statement.

They have revealed that the Cleveland Police have been informed about this incident and are currently investigating the matter. The organization also went further to advise the locals to remain cautious and report any other sightings of the impersonator immediately.

The residents are encouraged to contact Cleveland Police at 101, referencing CVP-25-012290, if they encounter the individual again.

Protecting community trust

This recent occurrence has prompted concerns on the issue of the misuse of trusted charity brands to deceive communities. A challenge that top charitable organizations such as the RNLI, a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea and which relies on legitimate fundraising efforts to support its life-saving operations, now face.

Fraudulent activities like this not only undermine the organization’s efforts but also erode public trust in charitable giving. Local authorities are working closely with the RNLI to ensure the safety of residents and the maintenance of the integrity of charitable work.

While no arrests have been made yet, the RNLI’s swift action in alerting authorities aims to prevent any further incidents. They have also reminded the public to verify the identity of any fundraiser claiming to represent them.

As this case unfolds, the RNLI encourages supporters to donate directly through their official website or designated channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes such as this.

Stay vigilant and informed to support genuine charity efforts.
