Death toll rises as Israeli attacks increase in Gaza
The death toll in Gaza is rising following an increase in Israeli strikes in the region despite the existing ceasefire agreement. Many Palestinians, especially children, have been killed over the past few days.
About 54 bodies and 66 boxes of human remains were reportedly handed over to the Red Cross by the Israeli occupation. These continuous attacks have devastated the healthcare system in Gaza and have also victimized healthcare providers.
Several medics and paramedics have been reported dead over the past few days following Israeli strikes. A paramedic, Hussein Al-Samari, died trying to rescue a child during Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday.
The Israelis have been accused of deliberately targeting medics and crippling the medical infrastructure in Gaza. About 22 hospitals have now been put out of service in Gaza due to Israeli strikes. Medical equipment, medicines, and now medical professionals are now in shortage supply in the region.
The Israelis have justified their attacks on healthcare facilities with the argument that they are being used by Hamas terrorists. This has allegedly helped Hamas return to the front lines.
However, Ramy Abdul, the Chairman of Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, has countered the narrative of the Israeli occupation. He has called the narrative by the Israelis a “disinformation machine” that they use to justify their crimes.
Similarly, Eva Bartlett, an American-Canadian commentator, has said that Israel has been deliberately targeting and killing Palestinian paramedics.
“If you were paying attention, you’d know Israel has been intentionally targeting and killing Palestinian medics for a very long time, including a medic I knew and accompanied in 2009,” she posted on X.
The Israeli strikes have also targeted children and young people. A group of students was attacked by Jewish militias during a school trip. Some students had to be taken to the hospital after being assaulted and sprayed with gas. Children now account for more than half of the fatalities in the Israeli strikes.
Humanitarian crisis in Gaza as Israeli strikes continue
Despite the enactment of the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza in October, the Israelis have continued to carry out attacks on the Gaza Strip. These attacks have led to further displacement of Palestinians and the destruction of critical infrastructure.
A significant percentage of the victims of these attacks are children, especially infants. Medics, paramedics, and journalists are also regular victims of the Israeli strikes.
The healthcare system in Gaza has been totally devastated due to the conflict. The Israelis have continued accusing Hamas terrorists of using healthcare facilities in Gaza as a cover for their activities and have used this to justify their attacks.
The deterioration of the healthcare system in Gaza has further contributed to the rising death toll in the region. More than half of the people in Gaza now do not have regular access to medications that they need to take.
