The Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation has applauded the U.S. Congress for increasing funding for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia research. The increase in funding is contained in the FY2026 Labor-Health and Human Services-Education appropriation bill.
U.S. Congress Increases Funding for Alzheimer’s Disease Research
In an X post, the Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation has applauded the House and Senate Committees in the United States Congress for their bipartisan support for increased funding for Alzheimer’s and other dementia research. The FY2026 appropriation bill released by Congress provides for increased funding to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Initially introduced in November 2025, the bill increases funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the purpose of supporting research on dementia. If approved, the additional funding will support the discovery of treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementia illnesses.
The bill, having passed through the House of Representatives and Senate, is now awaiting presidential approval. The Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation also encouraged Congress to follow through with the proposal to its final passage.
“The additional funding reflects a clear understanding of the scale and urgency of this crisis. We strongly encourage lawmakers to see this commitment through final passage and to sustain robust, long-term investment that brings real hope to people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia nationwide,” the organisation said.
GAP Foundation, in its appreciation, also encouraged Medicare and Medicaid services to support timely access to tests and tools for Alzheimer’s disease and similar dementia. It also appreciated UsAgainstAlzheimers for keeping the funding a priority and ensuring that it got bipartisan support.
Fight for a Breakthrough Against Alzheimer’s Disease
According to data from the CDC, Alzheimer’s disease has been tagged as the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. It is a neurodegenerative disorder that mostly affects elderly people.
Although there are drugs available to manage the symptoms of the disease, there is no form of treatment that stops or reverses the disease. This makes research efforts to cure the disease very important.
In a race to discover treatment for Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, non-profits like the Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation accelerate drug development by making clinical trials faster. focuses on bringing patients into the trial process for drug development.
Similar non-profits like UsAgainstAlzheimer’s advocate for increased funding for research to develop treatments against Alzheimer’s. Through advocacy, they have contributed to increased funding for dementia research.
