Hibernian FC is set to have its staggering £7.2 million loss wiped clean, thanks to a bold financial commitment from the Gordon Family. Hibernian Executive Director Ian Gordon says his family’s emotional connection to the club means they are financially committed for the long haul.
Ian Gordon joined the Club’s Board of Directors in March 2023 to ensure his father’s legacy continues at Hibernian FC. After studying marketing at Loyola University and Marymount University, Ian worked in vineyard management in California, specializing in wine production.
Like Ron, Ian has a burning passion for football. He has studied talent identification courses at the English Football Association, the Johan Cruyff Institute, and the Sports Business Institute Barcelona.

He worked as Hibs’ Head of Recruitment. He is now learning from the Club’s CEO to understand the different facets of running a Football Club.
Gordon’s Family: A brighter financial future
On Tuesday at the club’s AGM, Gordon told around 200 shareholders his family will absorb Hibs’ £7.2m losses this year. Ian’s father, Ron, became Hibs’ majority shareholder in 2019. Although he died in 2023, the Gordon family remain owners, with Ian and his mother, Kit, on the board.
“I think there’s such an emotional side to it now. Our family and I love this club. We lived and breathed in it; my father felt the same way. And, after my dad’s passing, we felt that continuing this was right,” Ian said.
Ian said he is still a young man, and his brother and he want to carry the torch for their father. He says they love everything about the club and their Mom, so they’re fully committed.
Ian said that the Gordon family’s experience and advice from Bournemouth owner Bill Foley and his Black Knight consortium—who invested in the club in March 2024—will help them better manage their finances in the future. Black Knight director Tim Bezbatchenko was alongside Gordon at the AGM.
“We know mistakes have been made, but we’ve learned so many lessons along that way, with the guidance of someone like Tim (from Black Knight) to help mentor me and also help us make better decisions moving forward. I think we’re in a good spot.” Gordon said.
A long-term commitment to Hibs
The bold financial commitment from the Gordon Family to Hibernian FC demonstrates their commitment to the club’s growth and honors Ron Gordon’s vision. As the club looks to the future, initiatives like the recent $630,000 donation from Summerland Charity to empower local youth demonstrate the community’s commitment to supporting the next generation.
This initiative aligns with Gordon’s family’s long-term vision for the club, and with their financial support, Hibs is confident of a bright future.
