The Role

This position offers an opportunity to play a key role in strengthening Headway UK’s digital presence and raising awareness of brain injury across the UK. Working within the Digital Communications Team, the Digital Communications Officer will create engaging content, grow online audiences, and use data-driven insights to maximize engagement across social media, email marketing, and digital platforms.

The successful candidate will work closely with teams across the organization to communicate Headway UK’s mission, share the stories of brain injury survivors and their families, and ensure the charity maintains a strong and impactful online presence.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Content and Audience Engagement

  • Create and optimize engaging content for social media, email marketing, and website platforms
  • Schedule and manage digital content campaigns to raise awareness of brain injury and promote Headway UK’s work
  • Monitor and respond to social media comments, messages, and discussions across digital channels
  • Identify and evaluate emerging social media trends and platforms to improve audience engagement
  • Develop compelling stories that highlight the experiences of brain injury survivors and their loved ones

Digital Strategy and Performance

  • Analyze social media and digital engagement data to identify trends and opportunities
  • Produce reports and insights that help inform communications strategy
  • Apply innovative approaches to increase audience reach and engagement
  • Support the continuous development of Headway UK’s online presence and digital communications activities

Internal Communications and Stakeholder Support

  • Coordinate internal communications including CEO briefings and staff bulletins
  • Manage relationships with ambassadors and influencers, ensuring consistent and values-led representation
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to support communications objectives
  • Act as an advocate for digital communications and social media best practices throughout the Headway network

Requirements

  • Experience using website and social media platforms in a professional setting, or demonstrable expertise in digital communications
  • Strong content creation and storytelling abilities
  • Knowledge of social media management and audience engagement strategies
  • Experience using content management systems (CMS)
  • Ability to analyze digital performance metrics and translate insights into action
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams
  • Passion for digital communications and charitable impact
