Through its Giving Directorate, the Church works to strengthen fundraising capacity and ensure cathedrals have the resources needed to sustain their mission and preserve their historic role in communities across England.

The Role

The Church of England is seeking a Head of Cathedral Fundraising Development to lead the design and delivery of fundraising support for its cathedral network. This three-year fixed-term role will oversee a discovery phase, pilot new fundraising initiatives and develop scalable strategies that strengthen fundraising capacity across cathedrals. Working closely with cathedral leaders and national teams, you will build partnerships, evaluate impact and help shape the future of fundraising support across the network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a national review of fundraising capacity across cathedrals.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate fundraising pilot programmes.
  • Build strong relationships with cathedral leaders and stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen philanthropy, trusts and institutional fundraising.
  • Collaborate with national teams to align fundraising initiatives.
  • Produce evidence and recommendations to support future investment and programme development.

Requirements

  • Significant senior fundraising experience, particularly in philanthropy, trusts or institutional fundraising.
  • Experience developing fundraising capability and leading strategic programmes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Experience designing and evaluating projects or pilot programmes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Church of England.
