SPEAR supports people experiencing homelessness across southwest London, providing accommodation, outreach, and specialist services that help individuals achieve stability, independence, and long-term housing solutions.
The Role
SPEAR is seeking a Hostel Support Worker to join its 14-bed, 24-hour hostel. This role is focused on creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents experiencing homelessness while delivering practical, emotional, and person-centered support that promotes wellbeing and independence.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Support
- Manage a small caseload of residents and deliver key-work support.
- Encourage engagement with support services and positive daily routines.
- Help residents work toward housing, wellbeing, and personal development goals.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Monitor resident wellbeing and respond appropriately to incidents or concerns.
- Follow safeguarding, risk management, and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all residents.
Teamwork and Administration
- Maintain accurate case notes and resident records.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and partner agencies.
- Deliver clear and detailed shift handovers to ensure continuity of support.
Requirements
- Compassionate, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable adults.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed support practices.
- Experience in homelessness, housing, or support services is desirable but not essential.
