The charity works to help women and children rebuild their lives through safe accommodation, advocacy, community services, and practical support. Guided by principles of safety, empowerment, and respect, Refuge provides compassionate, survivor-centred services that enable women to recover from abuse and move towards independence and a future free from violence.
The Role
Refuge is seeking a part-time Refuge Worker to provide practical and emotional support to women and children living within its refuge accommodation in the London Borough of Hounslow. This frontline role is central to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for survivors of domestic abuse. Working closely with residents, you will help women navigate housing, welfare, legal, and safety concerns while empowering them to rebuild their confidence and independence. The role also includes participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota and occasional work within the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Key Responsibilities
Survivor Support
- Provide high-quality emotional and practical support to women and their children living in refuge accommodation.
- Build trusting relationships that promote empowerment, dignity, and recovery.
- Ensure residents experience a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.
Safety and Advocacy
- Develop and review individual safety plans with survivors.
- Support women to access housing, welfare benefits, and legal advice.
- Assist residents in navigating services and advocating for their needs.
Case Management
- Maintain accurate records and case notes.
- Monitor support plans and progress towards agreed goals.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to coordinate support.
On-Call and Service Delivery
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
- Respond appropriately to emerging concerns and safeguarding issues.
- Occasionally provide support within services in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
About You
- Experience supporting vulnerable individuals, ideally women affected by domestic abuse.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide empathetic, person-centred support during times of crisis.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
