Lady Gaga’s foundation donate $100,000 to an Atlanta charity
Born This Way Foundation, founded by Lady Gaga, donated $100,000 to COR. COR supports young people through education, mental health support, and fighting social inequality.
The donation empowers the non-profit to provide better mental health services to young people. It will also help students in accessing free groceries and clothing.
Moreover, the charity organises campus meet-ups in schools where students can meet with guidance counsellors. They also provide free mental health counselling with a social worker on school campuses.
Additionally, COR set up boutique and grocery stores on campuses. Students can go into these stores and get clothes and groceries for free.
Jennifer Han, COR’s co-founder, says the non-profit is looking to expand and help children better.
“I want to give them knowledge. I want to share information with them. I want them to have opportunities and expose them to things that they may have never heard of or seen. And I also want them to learn how to take care of themselves. Self-care and mental health is so important these days,” she said.
COR making an impact in Atlanta communities
The nonprofit impacts Atlanta through its focus on youths and sometimes adults. It focuses more on children but also provides some services to adults.
Furthermore, the charity provides classes on subjects like health, managing grief, and human trafficking so children can protect themselves. It also provides financial literacy classes to adults.
Parents and youths praised COR’s initiatives. They said it has helped build strong relationships with their peers.
One parent, Tara Morton, said the foundation’s efforts have helped with providing resources.
“They’ve been such a helpful resource with furniture, clothing, and also letting the parents just give back in the community. So, it’s been very helpful for the students and families,” she said.
Similarly, students have also said the organisation’s meet-ups teach important skills. It gives them the opportunity to learn, communicate, and get the opportunity to know people.
The donation by the celebrity-owned foundation will better position COR to continue its work in Atlanta. However, COR says it will use the donation to pay the social workers serving children through its initiatives.
