Make-A-Wish use crypto donations to support hospitalised children

In a post on X, Make-A-Wish International has announced that it has commenced the acceptance of cryptocurrency to help change the lives of children living with critical illnesses. Make-A-Wish will use the donations to grant wishes of hospitalised children, which could be gifts or even a pet.

The non-profit now accepts over 70 cryptocurrencies, including Solana, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. Donations can grant various wishes, such as being a princess for a day, funding travel wishes, getting a new pet, and providing connection to gaming.

Also, Make-A-Wish has said that this initiative allows members of the crypto community to make a wide-reaching impact through philanthropy. Additionally, these donations are tax-deductible.

“WHEN A CHILD IS DIAGNOSED WITH A CRITICAL ILLNESS, CHILDHOOD IS INTERRUPTED. MOMENTS OF PLAY, FRIENDSHIPS, CELEBRATIONS, AND SIMPLE JOY ARE LOST TO HOSPITAL ROOMS AND TREATMENTS. YOUR CRYPTOCURRENCY DONATION HELPS CREATE LIFE-CHANGING WISHES FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE WAITING TO FEEL LIKE KIDS AGAIN.”

Furthermore, the charity has simplified the donation process into three steps. After completing these steps, donations can be made to make children’s wishes come true.

Crypto’s rise as an accepted means of donation

The Director of Digital Analytics and Technology of the Phoenix Children’s Foundation has praised the use of cryptocurrencies for donations. He highlights anonymity, security and flexibility as their advantages.

“DONATING CRYPTOCURRENCY MAKES A LOT OF SENSE; YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO DONATE ANONYMOUSLY. YOU CAN AVOID CAPITAL GAINS TAXES. PLUS, IT’S SECURE AND FLEXIBLE. YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM DOZENS OF DIFFERENT COINS TO DONATE,” HE SAID.

The use of crypto for donations also comes with more advantages. For the donors, sometimes donating crypto is not considered a taxable event, which allows them to avoid capital gains taxes.

Moreover, many non-profits believe crypto donations yield more financial value than the average cash gift. This has formed some of the basis for crypto’s rise in the philanthropic sector.

However, some cryptocurrencies are designed to automatically generate funds for philanthropy. An example is Giant Token in Nigeria.

With Giant Token, the system channels a portion of every transaction fee is into community welfare programs. The Giant Token Charity Foundation has conducted humanitarian outreach programs with the funds it has generated.
