MCU Foundation donates $150,000 to back housing charity for families of sick children

Municipal Credit Union (MCU) Foundation has confirmed a donation of $150,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV), a nonprofit providing essential services to the families of sick children.

A significant chunk of the grant will support RMHGHV’s meal program as MCU Foundation doubles down on its objective to eliminate poverty in New York.

Hundreds of families to benefit from $150,000 grant

According to a press release, the charitable arm of Municipal Credit Union has donated $150,000 to RMHGHV, continuing a red-hot streak of philanthropic activities. Per the statement, the six-figure grant will support RMHGHV’s mission of providing a “home-away-from-home” for families with critically ill children.

MCU Foundation President George Chacon confirmed that the grant will directly support RMHGHV’s meal programs for resident families. Additionally, the organization disclosed that families at the nearby Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and Blythedale Children’s Hospital will also receive meal support.

In 2025, RMHGHV’s 12-bedroom house provided over 20,000 meals to families, setting a record high for the organization. However, its 2025 milestone was propped up by support from the MCU Foundation, with Chacon noting that the obvious choice was to deepen its commitment to RMHGHV.

“For families at the Ronald McDonald House who are caring for seriously ill children, time and energy are devoted entirely to their loved ones, not to worrying about their next meal,” said Chacon.

Karnen Kosits, RMHGHV Director of Operations, hailed the MCU Foundation’s support, noting that the grant will improve the quality of service for resident families.

Given the MCU Foundation’s support, families at the RMHGHV can save as much as $100 per day. Meanwhile, families with extended stays at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital can save between $1,800 to $3,000 on daily living expenses.

MCU Foundation to eliminate poverty in New York

Chacon added that the donation to RMHGHV brings the MCU Foundation one step closer to its goal of eliminating poverty in New York. He stated that the lowest-hanging fruit is providing access to necessities, particularly for families at the Ronald McDonald House facing a difficult patch.

“At the MCU Foundation, our mission is to help build generational wealth and eliminate poverty, one New Yorker at a time,” added Chacon.

Launched in 2023, the MCU Foundation has stringed together several wins, including backing first-time home buyers with grants of up to $20,000. Furthermore, the foundation also provides scholarships to New Yorkers in addition to food, clothing, and shelter assistance to residents.

Food banks across the US and Canada are providing crucial support to families in need of food, while anti-poverty charities are pushing for the passage of legislation to support lower-income homes.
