NSGC SIG Research Grant Funding 2026 supports principal researchers, nonprofits, academic institutions and hospitals with up to $2,500 for conducting their research projects. Applications for 2026 are currently open, and submissions are available for two cycles: the Fall and Summer. The first cycle is ending on March 16, 2026, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT, and notifications will be sent in early May.

About The NSGC SIG Research Grant Funding 2026

The National Society of Genetic Counsellors (NSGC) sponsors the Special Interest Group (SIG) Research Grant funding. The 2026 grant program supports research projects that advance the goals of the receiving program, which occurs in two separate cycles: the fall and summer grant cycles. Each cycle has multiple funding steps that allow researchers to submit their proposals and undergo a rigorous review process before recieving the grant award.

With a total grant pool of $20,000, the SIG offers grants for projects that align with the goals of the centre. These may include cardiovascular, reproductive, pediatric, and cancer treatments. Projects that also focus on clinical practises and genetic counselling are given priority of funding. All applications must be submitted through the OpenWater portal and completed within one year.

Who Can Apply for the NSGC SIG Research Grant Funding 2026

• Registration requirements:

• • The key applicant must be a member of the NSGC.
  • The application is open to researchers worldwide.
  • Applications should be submitted through the OpenWater portal.
  • A maximum of a two-page report must be submitted at the end of the project after one year.

Application Process

1. Eligible applicants will submit a research proposal through the OpenWater portal for review.
2. The SIG will review the proposals, and shortlisted applicants will move to stage two of the funding program. 
3. In the second stage, applicants will undergo another review process conducted by the RQO committee. 
4. Shortlisted candidates from stage two will receive funding decisions.
