NYSHCR Municipal Finance Fellowship 2026 – Apply Now

The NYSHCR Municipal Finance Fellowship is a development programme by New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The fellowship is provided for recent graduates with some years of experience in public finance, investment banking, and government housing finance operations. It prepares participants for careers in finance and public service.

About the NYSHCR Municipal Finance Fellowship

The Municipal Finance Fellowship is a one-year, full-time professional fellowship. This initiative was established to harness talent in the financial services and public finance sectors. Fellows enter a programme that includes a six-month job with New York State Homes and Community Renewal and another six months at a partnering investment banking firm.

During their time at NYSHCR, fellows are trained in affordable housing finance, municipal bond issuance and real estate financing initiatives. This placement supports community development projects across New York State. Fellows will analyse financial structures, prepare presentations for rating agencies, and review bond transactions.

Meanwhile, there is an investment banking rotation, where fellows join analyst training programmes and work on public finance transactions. Activities in these sections are market research, preparing client presentations, and analysing pricing trends. The programme builds analytical skills while exposing fellows to real-world financial decision-making solutions within public and capital markets environments.

The fellowship promotes workforce diversity in finance and encourages applicants from underrepresented backgrounds interested in the public sector. Fellows are paid compensation fees and receive mentorship throughout the programme year.
