The Press and Journal (P&J) Charity Gala is reported to have raised £56,913.99 towards two local charities, Clan Cancer Support and Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation. P&J Live was full of business leaders from the far North and North East on February 21, who shared a night of philanthropy and warm-heartedness.

A night of giving and celebration

The event was hosted by the well-known TV celebrity Ben Hanlin, who led a lively program that included an entertaining live and silent auction and an interactive heads and tails game. The gala was aimed at unveiling The P&J Community Fund in collaboration with the newly selected charity beneficiaries after a public vote by over 4000 readers decided the winners.

To begin the night, a start-up payment of £20,000 was given with hopes that it would not only bring immediate aid but help fund crucial services over the next two years.

Press and Journal Editor Craig Walker was enthusiastic about the partnership claiming

“The P&J Charity Gala was a fantastic night. For me, it was a very insightful night on how amazing our charity partners funded the gala for a wonderful cause. We are very excited as a charity to work with them and increase more support.”

Impact and future support from P&J

The P&J Community Fund will continue to provide support for charities that offer cancer support services and aid for children afflicted by life-threatening conditions.

During the gala, Fraser Carr, the event’s sponsor and Managing Director of Cala Homes (North), remarked that the P&J Charity Gala is an event that unites the entire community around two exceptionally admirable causes and is something that was just as great as the last one. He further added that they can’t wait to see all of the positive impacts that these donations will bring.

Due to recent successes, The P&J Community Fund has doubled down in their efforts to improve the lives of people in Aberdeenshire, Moray, and The Highlands and Islands.
