Save the Children names new board chair in leadership shake-up

Save the Children has welcomed new leaders to its board of trustees to head and manage the organisation. These individuals will be advancing the charity’s goal to empower children to develop.

New Board of Trustees to lead Save the Children

Save the Children announced in a post on X that it has appointed new individuals to pivotal roles on its board of trustees. It welcomed a new board chair, a new vice chair, and six other individuals onto the board.

Mary Dillon will serve as the new board chair while Cynthia Jamison will be taking up the post of vice chair. The charity also appointed Aaron Thompson, Catherine Oppenheimer, Chris Hodgson, Judee Ann Williams, M. Lyndon Haviland, and Raj Kumar to the board.

The president of the charity, Janti Soeripto, expressed enthusiasm about the fresh perspectives that the new board members would be contributing to the management of the organisation. He called the appointments “a new chapter” for the organisation.

However, he appreciated the efforts and the contributions of the previous members of the board. Brad Irwin and Debra Fine will be stepping down as the board chair and vice chair, respectively.

“At the same time, we’re deeply grateful for the steadfast leadership that Brad Irwin, as former board chair, and Debra Fine, as former vice chair, have provided over the years. Under their leadership, we have delivered tangible, lasting impact,” she said.

Additionally, Mary Dillon, the new Board Chair, said the role reinforces her decade-long support for an organisation that has worked to help children all over the world.

“I’m proud to welcome our new Trustees, and I’m confident that together – through our shared dedication and belief in the power of Save the Children’s mission – we’ll continue driving meaningful results for kids, families, and entire communities worldwide,” she said.

New board brings fresh perspective and experience

The leadership shuffle will open Save the Children to fresh perspectives grounded in experience. Most of the new appointments have management experience that can further the mission of the organisation.

Mary Dillon was the former president of Foot Locker, Inc. She has over four decades of experience in consumer marketing and operations. She has been a Save the Children trustee since 2025.

Similarly, Cynthia Jamison, the new vice chair, joined the Save the Children Board in 2024. She is the chairman of Darden Restaurants and has served on the board of Tractor Supply Company.

The newly appointed members of the board also hold varying leadership and professional experience. Some have also previously served on the Save the Children Board of Trustees.
