Tackle Hunger celebrates $200 million local food charity raise

Share

Tackle Hunger, a nonprofit national charity is celebrating its major achievement of raising $200 million since its inception 35 years ago in support of local food charities across the U.S. The organization, through its annual Souper Bowl of Caring initiative, has been effectively mobilizing churches, schools, businesses, and media outlets in all 50 states in its fight against food insecurity hence ensuring that every dollar bill donation made remains within the local communities.

Tackle Hunger: A movement that keeps growing

What if everyone watching the Big Game donated just one dollar or one food item to a local food charity? This is the simple question that began the Souper Bowl of Caring. The idea took root and sparked a nationwide movement that has today generated millions in donations as well as provided other critical resources for hunger relief programs.

The understanding that many food charities are small and community-run initiatives with very little marketing budgets has promoted Tackle Hunger into developing the Tackle Hunger map. This map is an online tool that helps individuals find and support the local feeding programs around them ensuring that donations made reach those who are in most need.

Also in recent times, the organization has been working towards prioritizing the donations of more nutritious food, especially dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt.

In commemoration of this year’s success, Tackle Hunger is set to host a Souper Bowl of Caring event in New Orléans on February 5, benefiting families through the local nonprofit Culture Aid NOLA. The event will bring together benefactors such as Toys for Tots, LA Foods, Dairy MAX, and Snapo Toys to expand support for families in need.

Strengthening the local communities

Alison Reese, Executive Director of Tackle Hunger, emphasized the importance of collective action.

“Every family deserves access to healthy food, clothing, and other essential resources. Local food charities want to provide these, and our programs are here to support them,” she said.

She further highlighted that partnerships are key to sustaining local food charities.

“Working together, we can build support networks that empower these organizations to continue serving their communities,” she added.

With millions of families fighting hunger, Tackle Hunger remains dedicated to the use of the Big Game excitement to drive donations as well as create awareness. As the organization looks forward to other achievements, its mission remains clear, uniting communities to tackle hunger, one meal at a time.
