Ater was strategic in executing the rescue, working with the Sheriff’s deputy, their excellent collaboration made the rescue successful. He first helped the passenger to escape the burning vehicle and then brought out the driver by climbing the top of the car before the engine fire could be reignited.
The crash happened when the vehicle swerved from the road and hit a fire hydrant and a tree. Emergency responders transported the driver and passenger to a local hospital for treatment while fire crews extinguished the vehicle blaze.
Reflecting on his actions, Ater expressed a profound sense of pride.
“I was proud of myself, to be honest,” he said. “I’m proud that my parents raised me well enough, not just to drive past and ignore it. I was able to be there and help them.”
