9 international UN demining contractors were among those wounded after a vehicle-borne suicide attack by the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM), exploded in a residential area of Gao. One of the staff members was seriously hurt even though they all required medical attention. Two other UN peacekeepers were killed and 16 others (including the aid workers) were hospitalized.
