Two determined friends, Chris Helberg and Chris Bryer-Ash, have embarked on an extraordinary challenge: running seven marathons in seven consecutive days. Covering a total distance of 183.4 miles, their mission is to raise funds for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF), a charity that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families.

Running for a cause: Seven marathons in seven days

This unprecedented challenge was launched on Monday, March 10, with the pair taking different routes each day. Their final run will be concluded in Bournemouth Pier on Sunday, March 16, where supporters will gather to commend the duo.

The challenge was officially launched by former AFC Bournemouth chairman and DCCF patron, Jeff Mostyn, near Corfe Castle on, where a crowd of well-wishers saw them off.

DCCF was established in 2012 by three nurses from Poole, who understood the financial burden that cancer puts on families. The charity supports these families by providing assistance with essential services such as accommodation, transport for hospital visits, household bills, and respite breaks.

Surpassing expectations

The amazed Bryer-Ash expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming support they received.

“We have been incredibly motivated by how a number of them, a lot of whom we don’t actually know, have already gone onto the internet and sponsored us,” he said.

While they had set out a baseline fundraisers’ target of £20,000, the duo astonishingly raised the amount to £61,000 even before completing their first marathon.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer,” Bryer-Ash added. “It’s a cause that touches so many lives, and we’re honored to be running for such an important charity.”

With their determination, community support, and a cause close to many hearts, Helberg and Bryer-Ash’s challenge is already making a significant impact. As they push through their seven-day endurance test, the funds raised will go a long way in helping cancer patients and their families during difficult times.
