The gathering will bring together political leaders as well as UN special rapporteurs to advocate for Palestinians in Gaza. The Congress aims to accelerate the removal of the blockade of aid to Gaza, halt arms transfers to Israel, and push for reconstruction and recovery in Gaza.
Moreover, the UN Special Rapporteurs will make a unique contribution to the cause. The rapporteurs will provide factual groundwork and independent assessments on the situation in Gaza. The rapporteurs who will be present are Francesca Albanese, Michael Fakhri, Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, and Surya Deva.
Global Sumud Flotilla is still headed for Gaza as calls for captains are made
The Global Sumud Flotilla has made a call for captains on its X handle. It is the final call for captains to join the flotilla on its mission to Gaza.
However, people who are not captains can still volunteer and join the boats. The post urged people to use their expertise for the liberation of Gaza.
According to the real-time tracker, the flotilla now comprises 39 boats and is south of the Gulf of Lion as of April 17, 2026 (10:40 UTC). The flotilla heads towards its first scheduled stop in Italy before continuing its mission to Gaza.
The fleet expects more boats to join in international waters. The boats are headed to Gaza with a strong sense of solidarity to challenge the Israeli blockade of aid into Gaza.
