Welshpool firefighters smash car window to save a child and dog

Welshpool firefighters swung into action in swift response to rescue a child and a dog by smashing a front window to get them out. Crews from Mid and West Wales Fire Service were called to the scene of a young child and a dog stuck in a car at the Enterprise Park at Buttington Cross, Welshpool, on Tuesday, February 4.

The crew dispatched from Welshpool Fire Station after receiving the call at 2.26 pm. They smashed one of the car windows and made the scene safe with glass management to release the child and dog that were trapped in the vehicle.

“At 2.26 pm on Tuesday, February 4, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Welshpool Fire Station was called to an incident in Buttington in Welshpool. The crew responded to one young child and one dog stuck in one private motor vehicle,” said a spokesperson for the fire service.

It was reported that crew members liaised with the child’s parent and gained forced entry into the vehicle through its front window. They successfully released the child and dog and made the scene safe with glass management, at 3 pm, the crew left the scene.

This act of heroism exuded by the crews from the Mid and West Wales Fire Service not only averted the death of the child and dog but also depicted their unwavering commitment and support in serving and protecting the people. These examples stress first responders’ roles in emergencies, saving lives from buildings burning or rescuing the distressed.

Firefighters are our everyday heroes who risk lives and limbs in safeguarding lives and properties. Parents and pet owners are encouraged to double-check vehicles, ensuring nobody is inside, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

Across the Pacific, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) conducted 143 rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of Sabah and Sarawak. Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman, the JBPM Deputy Director General of Operations, said the total number included 63 operations in Sarawak, which rescued 2,681 victims, and 81 operations in Sabah, which helped 1,325 victims.
