Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, World Central Kitchen (WCK) has commenced the distribution of 100,000 food kits to families in Gaza. The food kits will provide 7 million meals for Gaza residents throughout Ramadan, complementing previous efforts by WCK in the war-torn region.
World Central Kitchen to give 100,000 food kits to Gaza families
According to an X post, WCK disclosed that its teams in Gaza have started distributing Ramadan food kits in the region to families. Per the post, WCK plans to share 100,000 food kits for residents to provide extended food supplies throughout the month.
Each kit, costing US$60, weighs nearly 30 pounds and can provide around 70 meals. Furthermore, the kits include only halal-certified and culturally appropriate pantry staples, including proteins, grains, and oils.

Furthermore, WCK teams are also distributing Iftar boxes to families containing dates, milk, and nuts intended to help families “break their fast with dignity.” The organization expects the food kits to provide 7 million meals during Ramadan, ensuring that families do not have to rely on daily handouts during the holy month.
“Each of the 100,000 kits contains culturally appropriate halal-certified staples and enough food for 70 meals, allowing families to gather for iftar and begin each day with suhoor in comfort and dignity,” read a WCK announcement
This is the third time that World Central Kitchen will give out Ramadan food kits in Gaza. Starting in 2023, WCK has served over 270 million meals, with the organization providing 1 million meals per day despite the dire humanitarian conditions in war-torn Gaza.
Aid expected to surge during Ramadan
With Ramadan inching closer, nonprofit experts are predicting a surge in charitable giving. Charity Commission for England and Wales CEO David Holdsworth noted that nonprofits will receive a surge in public donations in line with the “deep-rooted traditions of zakat and sadaqah.”
Already, World Central Kitchen has ramped up its fundraising efforts for Ramadan, notching impressive levels of success. Furthermore, with Lent approaching, an uptick in funding is expected for nonprofits providing food in crisis-hit areas.
Outside of Gaza, WCK maintains an active presence in several troubled regions, including Ukraine and Madagascar. WCK responded to wildfires in Chile, providing tens of thousands of meals to displaced persons and firefighters.
