Sudanese Charities Seek International Aid Amid Worsening Conditions

Sudanese charities are pleading with the international community to help improve current humanitarian conditions in the war-torn country. At a recent meeting with a top-ranking UN official, local organisations warned that present needs have exceeded resources. They demand urgent action to stabilize the situation.

Sudanese Charities Call for Urgent International Support

During the meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, Sudanese charities presented the problems facing communities affected by the ongoing conflict. Over 40 representatives at the meeting described how local organisations remain the primary responders in many areas.

Charity leaders disclosed that many families are finding it difficult to cope with repeated displacements. Several individuals have fled multiple times, leaving them without stable housing and access to basic services.

Last year, the US cut aid to Sudan, in a move that humanitarian groups describe as deeply worrying. These type of cuts directly affects women, children, and sexual violence survivors.

“I heard stark accounts of this war’s toll. Repeated displacements, unmet basic needs, and lack of support for people with disabilities and survivors of sexual violence. All-out effort is needed to enable Sudanese civil society to help where it is most needed,”  said United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk.

Participants at the meeting stressed that Sudanese charities can reach vulnerable populations. Representatives disclosed that their teams can reach places that international agencies cannot access. However, they said that with limited direct funding and slow disbursement, they cannot achieve their goals.

The Sudanese charities called on international donors to send more resources directly to local organisations. Meanwhile, they also urged international actors to strengthen protection for aid workers operating in high-risk environments.

Deepening Humanitarian Crisis and Proposed Solutions

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan has devastated infrastructure and disrupted food supply chains. Millions of people now face food insecurity, while health facilities struggle with shortages of staff and medicines.

Humanitarian officials warned that insecurity would affect service delivery. Rural areas and conflict-affected urban centres remain particularly hard to reach.

“The situation in Sudan is getting worse daily. The needs are overwhelming, resources are limited, and access remains a problem. We need coordinated global action to prevent further loss of life,” said Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths.

According to the United Nations Human Rights, leaders of Sudanese civil societies tabled solutions for emergency relief and longer-term recovery. They proposed expanding local food distribution, supporting small-scale farming to restore livelihoods.

Charities also reiterated the importance of sustaining education and protection programmes. The representatives added that continued neglect of priority areas can stoke prolonged instability in the region.
