The 75th Foundation Day of the National Association for the Blind (NAB) marked 22 years of partnership between Reliance Foundation and NAB India under the Drishti programme. A collaboration through which thousands of people have had their sight restored through free corneal transplants and eye surgeries.

At the event, Nita Ambani shared an emotional evening with children, teachers, caretakers, and members of NAB India, a moment shared by Reliance Foundation on X. She emphasized the significance of the milestone, stating it represents faith in human potential, equitable oppoutunities, and dignity.

The Drishti programme has restored sight to more than 22,000 people through corneal transplants and eye surgeries. In addition, the initiative has delivered over two lakh free eye consultations and supported education and livelihoods for persons with visual impairment.

“This is not just a milestone. It is 75 years of faith – faith in human potential. Faith in equitable opportunities. Faith in dignity. And faith that no child’s future should ever be dimmed because of how they see the world,” said Nita Ambani, Founder-Chairperson, Reliance Foundation.

She also reflected on the broader scope of the partnership with NAB India.

“Of all the work we do – in healthcare, education, sport, culture, or women’s empowerment – our experience with the visually impaired community has been among the most humbling, most fulfilling, and most transformative,” she said.

Expanding Support For The Visually Impaired

Noting that India accounts for more than 20 percent of the world’s blind population, Nita Ambani announced two new programmed funded by the Rs 5 crore commitment. These initiatives will support blind working women and students while delivering national-level skill-building programmes.

During the event, Reliance Foundatin also recognised India’s Blind Women’s Cricket Team, winners of the first Blind Women’s World Cup. Nita Ambani highlighted the journey of team captain Deepika TC, who is also pursing a bachelor’s degree in arts.

The announcement aligns with broader philanthropic trends covered by Charity Journal, including sustained funding commitments by major foundations and targeted support for vulnerable communities, where long-term funding commitments increasingly focus on inclusion, dignity, and access to essential services for underserved communities.
