The American Red Cross has continued efforts in offering aid to regions affected by the winter storm raging in the United States. Over 1,400 volunteers are now working non-stop to ensure the safety of people.
Winter storm aid continues as power cuts persist
In a post on X, the American Red Cross has stated that about 1,400 of its volunteers are working around the clock to provide winter aid for people affected by the storms raging in the U.S. With hundreds of thousands without power, their efforts are helping people stay safe in frigid weather.
The non-profit said that it supported more than 125 overnight shelters on Tuesday night. These efforts helped nearly 2,300 people stay warm and safe through the night.
The winter storm, which began last week, plunged about 800,000 people into darkness. The heavy snowfall led to power cuts in various regions in the U.S., leaving people in need of critical supplies and aid. Schools, roads, and airports have had to be shut down due to the intensity of the winter storm.
Though the storms have subsided, there are warnings of even heavier ones. The incoming storm has been predicted to bring stronger winds, more snow, and even coastal flooding.
“Now more than ever, it’s important to stay safe and look out for one another during this extreme weather. If you need a warming centre or overnight shelter, please visit http://redcross.org/shelter or download our free Emergency app,” the post by Red Cross advised.
Furthermore, the non-profit gave people tips via its post on how to stay warm during the brutal cold. People were urged to keep heat in by closing doors, wearing several layers of thick clothing, and sipping warm drinks.
Non-Profits Leading the Way in Providing Winter Storm Aid
Nonprofits have been leading the way in providing relief and aid for victims of the winter storms. Local charities, in conjunction with larger non-profits, have been assisting with the provision and distribution of aid.
Apart from the American Red Cross, other charities such as Good360 have been leading the line in providing supplies such as batteries and flashlights in affected communities. World Vision USA also announced earlier that it had been assessing the damage and preparing relief.
With another heavy winter storm expected to hit the U.S. on the weekends, the availability of aid and relief is important to ensure safety in high-risk areas. These efforts are pivotal in assisting the government in tackling the effects of natural disasters.
