The Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) 2026, managed by the U.S. Embassy in Senegal and covering Guinea-Bissau, invites alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs to submit project proposals. This annual competition supports innovative alumni-led projects that advance U.S. policy objectives, strengthen ties with the U.S., and highlight the impact of exchange programs.
About the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund
AEIF provides funding for projects that celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and align with key U.S. policy goals, such as promoting safety, prosperity, and freedom of speech. The program encourages alumni to collaborate, create meaningful impact in their communities, and foster connections with other exchange alumni.
Funding Size
- Award Minimum: $5,000
- Award Maximum: $35,000
- Funding is subject to availability.
Who Can Apply
The program is open exclusively to alumni of U.S. government exchange programs. Projects must include at least one of the following:
- Convene alumni from different exchange programs to build or expand networks, fostering regional or global collaboration.
- Strengthen relationships between alumni and the U.S. government to address shared goals and challenges.
- Support alumni in developing leadership capacity and implementing community projects using U.S. expertise, technology, or best practices.
For-profit entities are not eligible to apply as the prime recipient. Nonprofit organizations may subcontract with other entities, but only one non-profit, non-governmental organization can serve as the primary award recipient. Responsibilities of each subcontracted entity must be clearly defined.

Eligible applicants must reside in Senegal or Guinea-Bissau.
Sector or thematic focus
Projects should focus on community development, leadership, civic engagement, or collaborative initiatives that advance U.S. policy goals and strengthen alumni networks.
Application Process
Applicants submit proposals that clearly describe the project, objectives, and expected impact. Collaborative projects are encouraged, and all proposals must involve at least two alumni or an alumni association. Proposals should also specify any planned partnerships, use of U.S. resources, and project sustainability.
