Russian missile hits UN warehouse storing aid for 130,000 Ukrainians

A Russian missile has hit a UN warehouse in Ukraine, destroying food aid meant for 130,000 Ukrainians. Officials identified the missile as a precision-guided Iskander ballistic missile strike.

Russian missile attack on warehouse destroys food aid for Ukrainians

The World Food Programme (WFP) has condemned a Russian attack on a warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine. A Russian missile hit the warehouse, destroying a significant quantity of food aid meant for thousands of Ukrainians in frontline areas.

According to the WFP, a precision-guided Iskander ballistic missile hit the warehouse used for its humanitarian operations. The warehouse stored food aid meant for 130,000 people living near the frontline. The destroyed food aid is worth an estimated $1.4 million.

However, WFP chief Cindy McCain condemned the Russian attack on the humanitarian facility through a post on X.

“Absolutely unacceptable. These deliberate attacks must end. Aid workers and humanitarian assets are not a target,” she posted.

Furthermore, the organisation noted that this was the second time the facility had come under fire in six months. A WFP representative in Ukraine, Richard Ragan, also said that WFP has recorded multiple incidents affecting the warehouses.

“This is the second time this warehouse has been hit. In November 2025, it was damaged by a drone strike. Over the past 18 months, WFP has recorded more than 84 incidents affecting its warehouses, vehicles, distribution points, and the assets of its local humanitarian partners across Ukraine,” he said.

After the attack, WFP teams assessed the full extent of the damage and confirmed that all personnel were safe. The agency said it will continue to provide critical food and cash assistance to people in the frontline regions of Ukraine.

More civilian casualties from Russian attacks

The destruction of the WFP warehouse happened a day after Russia carried out a massive attack in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The Russian attacks killed two people and injured about 90.

UN officials have said it was one of the largest combined air attacks in the country since the start of the war in February 2022. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is now in its fifth year.

Recently, a UN human rights monitor reported that Russian strikes killed and injured more people in Ukraine during the first quarter of 2026 than in the same period in any of the last three years. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 238 civilians and injuries to 1404 others.

Reports also indicate that between January and April of this year, there were at least 62 incidents affecting humanitarian personnel and assets.
