About
Faces Up Uganda is a youth-led nonprofit organization based in Kampala, Uganda, established in 2016 to empower children and young people from vulnerable and underserved communities through creative arts education, mentorship, and personal development. The organization uses art as a tool for healing, self-expression, confidence-building, and social inclusion, helping young people overcome barriers that affect their education and future opportunities.
The organization provides arts-based learning and psychosocial support to children and young people, both in and out of school. Through its Art as Therapy programme, Faces Up Uganda uses creative activities to help learners express their emotions, develop self-awareness, strengthen their social skills, and improve their engagement in education. It also works with educators to integrate arts education into learning environments and better support students' social and emotional needs.
Faces Up Uganda promotes economic empowerment through its Artpreneurship initiative, which equips young people with creative skills, mentorship, and opportunities to earn income from their artwork. Through its social enterprise, Faces Up Store, children's artwork is transformed into products such as greeting cards, clothing, bags, and other merchandise. A portion of the proceeds supports school fees for children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, while another portion helps sustain creative learning activities.
In addition, Faces Up Uganda encourages young people to become active problem-solvers and community leaders through creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Its Design for Change approach helps young people develop innovative responses to social, economic, and environmental challenges in their communities. By combining arts education, psychosocial support, entrepreneurship, and youth leadership, Faces Up Uganda aims to help children and young people learn, heal, earn, and thrive in school and in life.
