About
HERVeg.05 is a social enterprise founded in 2024 that works to combat malnutrition, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable agriculture in rural Tanzania. The organisation focuses on supporting smallholder farmers, particularly women and young people, who often face challenges accessing quality farming inputs, agricultural training, and reliable financial services. HERVeg.05 aims to help farming households grow more nutritious food, increase their incomes, and build more resilient livelihoods through practical, community-based agricultural solutions.
The organisation’s mission is to improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture in rural farming communities. It recognises that limited access to nutritious food, declining soil fertility, unpredictable weather, and financial constraints can prevent farmers from reaching their full potential. HERVeg.05 addresses these challenges by providing farmers with the resources and knowledge they need to improve food production, strengthen household food security, and create better economic opportunities for their families.
HERVeg.05 supports farmers through the distribution of nutrient-rich vegetable seeds, biofortified maize, vaccinated chickens, and organic farming inputs. It also provides hands-on training in climate-smart agriculture, poultry management, composting, and nutrition. Through its mobile savings and layaway system, farmers can save gradually using basic mobile phones to purchase agricultural packages without relying on loans. The organisation also delivers farming inputs directly to rural villages, helping farmers reduce travel costs and access essential resources before the planting season.
Through its programmes and partnerships, HERVeg.05 aims to build healthier, more productive, and self-reliant rural communities. Its approach combines agricultural development, financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, youth participation, and environmental sustainability. By helping smallholder farmers improve their harvests, diversify their diets, and generate additional income, HERVeg.05 works towards a future in which rural families have greater food security, economic independence, and the resources to thrive.
