Interfaith coalition marks 250 years of freedom with a charity gala in Maryland

An interfaith coalition of civic and community organizations will host the Freedom 250 Charity Gala this month in Silver Spring, Maryland. The free event is expected to draw elected officials, faith leaders, and volunteers from across the Washington region.

Organizers describe the vision behind the Freedom 250 Charity Gala

Lead America Inc. and the Interfaith Leadership Alliance of Washington, D.C. announced the gathering, formally named the America Freedom 250 Liberty Charity Gala. The United National Diversity Coalition of America is organizing the event, set for July 19 at Southern Asian Church.

The gala carries the theme “Soul of America” and the motto “Unity in Diversity.” According to organizers, it stands as a tribute to two and a half centuries of national freedom and shared achievement.

Freedom Gala Chair and Lead America President Rajesh Gooty called the milestone a defining moment for the country. He extended an open invitation to community groups across the region.

“We warmly invite all organizations, faith communities, and leaders to join hands with us in this grand celebration.”

Gooty said the nation’s diverse communities have shaped its growth through hard work, innovation, and public service. He credited immigrant and diaspora groups with contributing to what he called the shared spirit of the country.

Community and political figures set to attend

The gala is expected to draw several elected officials, including U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam and Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk. Loudoun County Treasurer Henry C. Eickelberg and former Leesburg Councilman Ron Campbell are also on the guest list.

The event follows a broader pattern of civic institutions supporting immigrant and diaspora communities nationwide. Similar efforts have drawn philanthropic backing elsewhere, including a Florida nonprofit that recently received a major grant to expand services for immigrant families.

Charity galas have also become a common tool for nonprofit fundraising nationwide. Meanwhile, similar benefit events elsewhere regularly draw hundreds of attendees each year.

The program will include live musical and dance performances by the Natyamargam Dance School. Organizers also plan an awards ceremony recognizing regional and national leaders for work in community building and youth empowerment.

“Together, in the true spirit of Unity in Diversity, we together create a mesmerizing evening that honors freedom and strengthens our bonds of this epoch shared American identity, the very soul of America.”

Admission to the gala is free, though registration is required through Eventbrite. Organizers said the all volunteer effort depends on civic patrons to help fund ongoing education and leadership programs beyond the event itself.
