Former Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, has urged the democratic world to frame support for Ukraine. This according to him, is a strategic investment in long-term security rather than an act of charity.

Why backing Kyiv matters for global stability – Bauer
In an exclusive interview, Bauer dismissed growing debates among Western policymakers. This is a response to the continuation of aid to Kyiv.
He argued that allowing Ukraine to be defeated as a sovereign state would carry severe consequences for global stability.
“We, the democratic part of the world, must continue to support Ukraine for many reasons,” Bauer said.
Bauer argued that the democratic world must not allow a sovereign state to vanish due to aggression from another nation. He added that defending Ukraine is crucial for the security of both Europe and the broader democratic community.
He however, urged all countries that back Ukraine to heed that call.
Ex-NATO military chief urges support for Ukraine, warns against ‘charity’ narrative
The former NATO military chief also expressed admiration for the scale of international assistance Ukraine has received during its ongoing conflict with Russia. He noted that without such backing, Ukraine’s ability to continue fighting would not have been possible.
Bauer directly addressed lawmakers wavering on further aid, urging them to reject the charity-versus-interest narrative.
“This support is in the interests of the West. We must view it not as charity but as an investment in our own security,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom government has reiterated that the £2.35 billion proceeds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club must be spent exclusively on humanitarian causes inside Ukraine. This is necessary as a new charity led by a prominent former UN aid chief prepares to distribute the funds.
Earlier, President Donald Trump had threatened to cut Ukraine aid aim to halt weapons shipments. He is applying direct pressure on European allies to join a US-led coalition aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
