About
Unchained At Last is a survivor-led nonprofit organization dedicated to ending forced and child marriage in the United States. Founded in 2011 by Fraidy Reiss, a survivor of a forced marriage, the organization helps individuals escape or resist forced marriages and rebuild their lives. Its mission combines direct support for survivors with advocacy for lasting social, legal, and policy changes. The organization provides free legal, social, and financial assistance to individuals experiencing forced marriage or facing pressure to enter one. Its services include help with finding safe housing, legal representation, transportation to important appointments, emergency financial assistance, counseling, mentorship, and support groups. These services are designed to help survivors establish safety, regain independence, and rebuild their lives. A central part of Unchained At Last's work is its advocacy to end child marriage. The organization works with lawmakers, legal professionals, partner organizations, and communities to promote legislation establishing 18 as the minimum marriage age without exceptions. Through policy reform, public education, and collaboration with advocacy networks, it seeks to strengthen legal protections for children and prevent forced marriages. Unchained At Last also raises public awareness through educational presentations, media engagement, community events, and creative demonstrations designed to highlight the experiences of people affected by forced and child marriage. As a survivor-led organization, it places survivors' experiences and perspectives at the center of its work while encouraging broader public understanding of the issue. Through its direct services, survivor support, public education, and legislative advocacy, Unchained At Last seeks to create a society where everyone can freely choose whether, when, and whom to marry. Its long-term vision is a world where no child is forced into marriage and every individual has the freedom and support needed to make decisions about their own future.
