About
The Walton Family Foundation is a family-led philanthropic organization established in 1987 by Sam and Helen Walton, founders of Walmart, along with their children. The foundation supports initiatives intended to improve opportunity and protect natural resources, with major areas of work including K-12 education, environmental conservation and economic development in the Mississippi River Delta and Northwest Arkansas.
Its grantmaking supports nonprofit organizations, schools, community groups and other partners working to expand educational choice, strengthen communities and protect rivers, oceans and fisheries. The foundation also invests in entrepreneurship and economic opportunity in regions connected to the Walton family, particularly Northwest Arkansas and the Mississippi River Delta. Through grants and partnerships, it seeks to test new approaches and support solutions that can produce lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
