The GOMESA Grant Program 2026- Apply Now

The GOMESA Grant Program is a federal funding opportunity tied to the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) of 2006, which directs a portion of offshore oil and gas revenue to Gulf Coast states, including Alabama. The program supports projects that promote coastal protection, conservation, restoration, infrastructure resilience, and natural resource management.

About the GOMESA Grant Program

Under GOMESA, Alabama receives a share of revenues generated from offshore oil and gas activities. The State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) manages the program and is currently accepting Project Suggestions for activities and programs that could be funded.

Funding Size

GOMESA funding is derived from revenue sharing with Gulf producing states. While the total funding varies annually based on lease revenues, the program typically provides multi-million-dollar allocations for projects that protect and restore coastal environments, support wildlife, and improve infrastructure impacted by offshore activity.

Who Can Apply

Project Suggestions can be submitted by individuals, organizations, local governments, tribes, or non-profits interested in advancing projects consistent with GOMESA’s authorized uses. Applicants must provide clear details on project goals, location, costs, and alignment with program priorities.
