The 2026-1 Translation and Publication Grant Program invites legally registered foreign publishing houses to submit proposals to translate and publish Taiwanese original works overseas within two years. Each applicant may submit a maximum of two proposals in this cycle.
About the Translation and Publication Grant
This program supports the translation of Taiwanese original books written in traditional Chinese into foreign languages for print publication abroad. All genres are eligible. The initiative aims to promote Taiwanese literature and publishing internationally through high-quality translation and overseas distribution.
Funding Size
Each approved project can receive up to NT$600,000, inclusive of 20% income tax.

Eligible applicants are legally registered or incorporated foreign publishing houses (legal entities).

Geographic Eligibility
Open to foreign publishers worldwide seeking to publish translated Taiwanese works in their respective countries.
Sector or Thematic Focus
The program supports translation and overseas publication of Taiwanese original works that meet the following criteria:
• Written in traditional Chinese characters
• Created by a person holding a Republic of China (Taiwan) national ID card, or a foreign author holding a valid Taiwan work permit (subject to relevant employment laws)
• Assigned an ISBN in Taiwan
• Any literary or non-literary genre is accepted
Application Process
Applications must be submitted online through the Ministry of Culture’s English grants system during the application window.

Applicants must include:
• A contract or authorization letter from the copyright holder permitting translation and overseas publication, clearly stating rights and obligations such as term, renewal, royalties, and advance
• A translation sample of the Taiwanese work
• Translator CV stating Mandarin translation experience
• A proposal confirming that the translation will be directly from the original Chinese text

• Detailed publication plan
If applying for promotion support, applicants must also submit:
• A clear promotion plan involving the Taiwanese author’s participation in overseas events such as talks or book launches (advertising costs are not eligible)
• Evidence that the promotion activities are completed before final project reporting
Key Dates
• Application period: April 1 to April 30, 2026 (Taiwan time, GMT+8)
• Projects must complete overseas publication before April 30, 2028
Selection Notes
Each applicant may submit up to two proposals. Proposals are reviewed based on translation quality, feasibility of overseas publication, and the strength of the publishing and promotion plan.
