The AMA Ethics Fellowship 2026 – Apply Now

The AMA Ethics Fellowship offers early-career physicians and medical trainees a platform to examine complex ethical questions shaping the future of medical practice. Selected fellows collaborate with AMA teams to create an educational podcast that advances understanding of ethical responsibilities in medicine and strengthens public trust in the profession.

About the AMA Ethics Fellowship

Delivered by the American Medical Association, this fellowship supports participants to explore contemporary ethical issues through guided topic development and podcast production. The current cycle prioritizes themes around ethical applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare, the broader social responsibilities of physicians, and public health ethics. Each fellow works with experts and AMA staff to produce a podcast episode eligible for CME and published on the AMA EdHub.

Funding Size

Each fellow receives an honorarium of $2,500 upon successful completion of the fellowship requirements.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include:
• Medical students enrolled in accredited MD or DO programmes in the United States
• Residents and fellows in accredited U.S. training programmes
• Physicians within five years of completing graduate medical education

Applicants must be currently based in the United States.

Geographic Eligibility

United States only. Eligibility is tied to enrolment in or graduation from a U.S.-accredited medical programme.

Application Process

Applicants submit an online proposal through the official AMA portal. Submissions are reviewed for ethical relevance, originality, and potential contribution to trust in medicine. Selected fellows are invited to attend a working conference in Chicago in September to refine their topic, receive guidance, and prepare for podcast development.

Required Materials

Applicants must submit:
• A 300-word description of the proposed ethics topic and its relevance to public trust
• Three to five guiding podcast questions related to the topic
• Name of a faculty mentor who agrees to support the fellow
• Names of three to five experts available for podcast interviews
• Description of any supplementary materials the applicant intends to create

• Application deadline: 20 July 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Central Time
• Working conference: September 2026 in Chicago
• Podcast publication on AMA EdHub after completion

Selection Notes
